Speaking for the gunsharks,
We are fairly happy to travel (our only real proviso is not Wigan) but would prefer the event to be in the Southern half of the country. As others have said for Serenity we'd pretty much be happy anywhere however. End of october sounds good for us.

Please not the last weekend in Octiber - the clocks change that weekend, the office is already on a skeleton staff, and someone's gotta make sure that Ceefax and the EPG doesn't go wacky during the change (that someone is me this time - sometimes working for the BBC sucks) _________________ Chaplain Damien Sutherland

Not wishing to add flies to the engine oil, but the weekend of the 13th Oct most of the Jien Huo crew wll be at a Firefly/Farscape game (unless my diary is all humped up).
Nov 3rd could also be tricky (for any one committed to the Legion of Dreams low level).
(cross fingers and hope the the best). _________________ --------------------------

Any of you refs ever been to Candleston, South Wales?
It's huge, has really varied terrain including sand dunes that you can hide in like they're foxholes (I wonder if Dr Larn remembers Shanks' and Ronan's 'how much ammo do you have' moment with spells at the BLP?), and, most amazingly of all, is within an hour's drive of my house.
Ok, so the rest of you guys might not care about that last point so much... _________________ Whammy! |

Candleston is gorgious and despite being in Wales it's very accesible, it only took us two and half hours to get there from Nottingham but it is purely camping which needs to be thought about for the colder months..
Ullsethorpe scout camp in Leicstershire is nice, not huge for any outs and abouts mind. Depends what you are looking for. _________________ Shikoba Cheng - The Jien Huo

Candleston is amazing, no electricity is a bit of a bummer for radio charging and cortex setup though. Also I wonder how a gun toting modern/sci-fi game might work there given that many of its best features, including the dunes, badlands and castle, are all public access and quite often heavily used by said public. Maybe other games that include widespread use of firearm phys reps have carried it off there without issue before? If so then def worth a look. _________________ Wang

Candleston is great in the dry, but not so great if soggy - and like Badabing says, not great for charging electircals etc.
Ullesthorpe in Leics is good - and is usually available for hire from October i think - anytime before that is sole scout use. Large building with bunk rooms, plus two (or three) other buildings on site - not a whole lot of woodland around it, has a fire pit - but don't now how good for any "overland" linear games.
There are few YHA sites that may do too -
http://www.yha.org.uk/hostel/hostelpages/120.html - is one in Kent (or thereabouts)...
am keeping an eye out for anything of interest! _________________ Aki Li Lee (Lily)

I’ve played and run stuff at Ullesthorpe and it’s actually OK for doing overland bits, the advantage is that although the space outside is limited it’s all very “separated” off from each other bit so you can essentially circle the area as a linear, however how it would be for a fuly interactive “everybody can be in different places” I’m not sure… as it’s really hard to effectively hide from even a cursory search.

I've run several events at Polyapes, and it's a good site. It's not huge though - 29 acres or so, and it's shaped roughly like a dumbbell - two large areas joined by a thin corridor of land. And, unfortunately, the two buildings you can hire are on that thin corridor. So if you use one as your crew hut and one as your player hut, it can be quite pain trying to sneak your crew out to set an encounter without players seeing them go.
And the other downside of it is location - it's situated just off one of the busiest parts of the M25, so trying to get down there for a Friday afternoon / early evening can be problematic. _________________ Nate Watson, Ships Doctor, Aphrodite |

Ullesthorpe is`nt available to LRP groups until Oct (Oct - Feb).
Another option is Harmers Green Scout Camp near Welyn Garden City (just North of London), but the only free weekend in the Sept / Oct time period is MAYBE 20-22 Oct (bad for some folks), they have a vauge provisional booking for that weekend and price wise is 350 quid.
Overstone Scout Centre near Northampton is another option.
