Timing of the EventsHy guys,
I'm writing up a player for use in the future and I'm wondering what time period the game's set in so I can get the age as close as possible. I'd like my character to have been involved in the Unification Wars in some way, but obviously can't end up with a 30-year-old character when I'm only 21.
Main thing I suppose I want to know is if I was old enough to be jailed and/or enlisted in 2508, how old would that put me at now?
Far as I've heard, the Firefly series seems to take place around 2517-8, which would put me at about 27 if we were playing in that time period. That's probably about the upper limit I could pass for though.

If I recall right, the 1st Event was Unification Day - the same U-Day that was depicted in the series. There's three IC months between each event and we're about to hit the 3rd event. What actual date that is... I haven't a clue.
Or, I'm talking OUT OF MY ASS.

Nice answer. So shall I just assume it's ok then and not bother with details such as age?

Well, the war ended 6/7 years ago. I'd reckon on those fighting with the Alliance having to be at least 18, but the Browncoats being a lot more lenient with military entry ages, maybe as low as 15.
Which would put a minimum age of about 25 if someone fought for the Alliance and 22 if someone fought for the Browncoats.
Again, this really could just be some virulent guff escaping from the penitentiary of my lower colon.

The idea was to have been recruited during the three months Athens was under the control of the Independents, though that said I don't know whether the place I read that was taking it from canon or just making it up (http://jillarroway.com/borderline/ - a series of broadcasts for an Alliance radio show).
Bah, screw it. I'll be 25 and be done with it. Now I just have to find a way to get to the event...

take a look at this mate - it may help a little.
http://www.mts.net/~arphaxad/firefly.html
event1/U-day was late may 2513 according to this.
approx birthdates of the series characters are also shown.

Right, so if we're in February 2514 next event, that's five and a half years after enlistment. say he was signed up at ~17, that makes him just under 23 which is less than 2 years off - good enough for me.
Cheers for the help!

When we planned the campaign, the basic principle was that the series took place over the course of about a year, with the film dropping in around the 12 month mark (give or take a couple of weeks).
Next event will be six and half years after the end of the war from what I recall.

Right, well in that case I'm going to say that since the other radio place probably isn't canon, I'll ignore it. Coben was recruited at 17 a year before the war ended so he's now coming up to 25. That'll do. Now I just hope I can get to next event...
Dont suppose anyone lives or is travelling near Leicester..? <:-S
