Captaining

Hi guys,

Won't be putting a crew together for this event, but I'm hoping to do it for the one after. I'd be taking on the Captain's position (possibly piloting too), but unsurprisingly I don't particularly know much about the running of a ship. Can anyone let me know average details about what it costs to run a ship/downtime, approximate pay for various jobs, general wages for crew etc.?

Cheers,

Ross

Hi Ross - i would love to be able to give you the info, especially as my character is currently doing the captain/pilot role, but as i still havent been given the relevant stats myself........(insert subtle hint to jon Rolling Eyes)
.......only advice i can give, is to wing it, and hope for the best.

Forgot that was only the second event Confused

Well, for now I'll just sort out background and stuff and get around to working minor details like pay out later.

Thanks!
Jon

Hint taken, will get on it once I've put up the new shed, sorted out a load of job applications, prettied up the event 3 splash, contacted the ref team, finished writing the meta-plot, written up the budget expenditure, emptied my car of larp kit, developed the system I wrote a couple of weeks ago...

Err Embarassed Will try asap.

Hi,

I'm the captain of a fairly big ship with quite a big merc crew and to be honest my answer would be it depends. That may not be too helpful but diff jobs pay diff amounts depending on how dangerous they are etc... and the smaller a ship and crew then the cheaper it is to run but you can't take on such big jobs so without more details I would say that there is no real answer to you question as it stands.

Cheers - I agree, I'm not going to be taking on jobs on the scale of what the Gunsharks could handle. I suppose I'll just take work as it comes and learn for myself what my crew needs. Smile
Grace

Oh and I guess the wages that you pay your crew are what you can sort out with them - depends how good at dictating - uh I mean negotiating fair rates with your crew you are.

I'm not sure its size of job that TJ considers when deciding which ones to run by me - more how dangerous they are and therefore how big a cut he'll get Confused Laughing

we get paid now?

That's new.
Grace

No its not, you all get a percentage of any profits we make - until last event though all our money went into getting us a ship and then feeding you all. hopefully there will be profits from now on - and where do you think the money you got last event came from?

Prince's (lack of) piloting skills eating the profits? Ha, now I've seen it all.

Honestly Grace, if you want to make any profits in this game, you need to get yourself a pilot who don't crash your ship every time he tries to land it.

Tobias,

Watch what you say about my crew, I don't take kindly to others insulting them or suggesting I replace them! Prince may not be the best pilot in the 'verse but he's mine and he's like family!

Also what we need to do to the ship has nothing to do with Prince's piloting skills it has to do with putting in vital things such as a med bay which wasn't there when we bought it.

Heh, only reason you gotta crew to fly your tub is cos o'the gorram name. Yokels can't use normally cutlery. So they find sporks kinda vital.

Oh, how very droll.
But how can you call my Leviathan a tub when you fly a Mandrake?! Those things look like they fell down the ugly tree, and hit every branch. And that's when they're delivered new off the production line.....

Anyhow, i got shut of the yokels 2 month back - seems the local feds on Angel took against them, on account of their behaviour around animals - charged them with "lewd behaviour & inappropriate relations with a chicken".

Took me weeks to clear the straw out of the engine room......

Careful now.

first my crew, now my ship!

While it may not be entirely true about the ship, you have to admit he has a point about Prince.
Grace

Now really boys what you need to ask yourselves here is do you want to be on friendly terms with me and mine or not? Think carefully before you answer and post any more slights.

Hey, Prince started the whole ship thing - i'm totally innocent of that. Personally, I think it's just a tad below the belt, and as such I wouldn't normally lower my standards that far.

Actually, it may not be Prince's fault - i did my training on one of those heaps of....ok, i'll not go any further with that - as i said, below the belt.
Point of fact is, they were made to the lowest price possible, by the lowest bidder - just like most military hardware. Even as a new ship, they aint exactly nimble, or quick to answer to the helm.
That said, they're a prety strong work horse - built like a brick outhouse as the saying goes.
shame Iskellian's design team made them look and handle like one too.
