Hi, Long time reader, first time poster...

It would appear that I am considering playing the next Serenity event. Now I know where it is and when it is and where to send stuff but I have some questions...

1) What is the IC basis of the event?
2) what counts as a phys rep for light armour as opposed to light armour
3) Is it possible to take faith member to represent being an active memeber of the flock rather than a priest, monk, rabbi or some other random authority figure?

Well that is the start of the list...

Well, I can't answer #1, but I can take a stab at the second and third.

2 - Light armour could be well represented by a flak vest or similar item, while heavy armour would presumably be one incorporating heavy plates into its design.

3 - You can be an active practicer of a faith without the faith member skill - I believe that's only really there to offset the benefits you may get from interacting with members of your faith and organisation if you are a religious leader. I doubt you'd need to take it if you were just playing a Christian for example. I could be wrong though, and in that case I'd need to adjust my character sheet for when I eventually play Very Happy

Sure, belief alone costs nothing. Having the responsibility of cannonisation or whatever behind you has more at stake.

The two faiths shown during the series (Christianity and Buddhism) are the obvious first choices, but any sensible modern-day religion is fine - Islam, Judaism, Taoism, Paganism (of various forms) and many other faiths have survived from Earth-That-Was. The thing to remember is that you do need to be sensible and show respect, especially when portraying a religion that is not your own (out-of-character).

It's also worth noting that religion in Serenity has changed very much from the way it is today - many political or geographical concerns that have brought modern-day religions into conflict (for example, the Christian West versus the Islamic Middle East) ceased to be a factor with the exodus from Earth, so separate religions have learnt to co-exist far more peacefully - they are, after all, in the same boat together. For this reason, concepts such as that of Islamic suicide bombers (a product of modern media & politics rather than the Islamic faith) have long faded by the time of Serenity. The crux of this is that inter-faith contention is theological and philosophical in nature, rather than outright militant.

Oh, and the background to Event 3 will be arriving on the website shortly.

*Does a happy dance*

My concept is pleasantly intact. Hooray!
