Hi All!
First off, its lovely to be here. Secondly, I'm planning on joing up the Firefly Larp at the next opportunity.
Now, the reason I'm posting in this forum, I had some spare time at work today, and decided to see about knocking up some certificates.
So far I've put together a spaceship registry certificate, with inspiration from this chap, some good old Google-fu and a few trips down to central library!
I plan to put together a decent package to match the ship papers which Mal has, it consist of something like:
Ship registry
Cargo Manifesto
Engine certification
Ships passport
Captains license
Salvage license
And I was wondering if this'd be of any use to anyone? And if so, if anyone would want to host the documents (I'm simply using powerpoint and GIMP at the moment, as I am cheap!
I've included a quick snapshot of the registry I've drafted, the ink on my printer is running out, so it isn't the best, but gives a good idea!
Anyway, good to meet you all!
AlexT.
Edit: I'd just like to point out that most of the 'written' text on the example is all rubbish, just whatever dropped out of my head at that point in time.

Also, since Alex has brought this up, i made some certificates & stuff for my crew - sent a copy of them to Jon in case he wanted them for general use. If anyone wants a copy, i'll email them to you.
Note, A) you will need photoshop or similar to edit them - most are .psd format.
B) Whilst most are my own work - some are not, and are modified/not so modified versions of stuff done by a friend who goes by the handle"Whitefall" on propcircle.com - he works for QMX now, doing making replica props. These are provided on the basis they dont end up on ebay/get sold commercially, as if they do, he'll get a bit upset.
What i have:
Salvage licence
Nav Beacon Licence
Ship's Registry Certificate
Drive Schematic
companions licence
Medical practicioners licence
Pilot's licence (front+Back, credit card size)
weapons permit (front + back, slightly larger than credit card)
Ship's Log (index + various inserts, for a suitable book)
Traders Guild Accreditation
Nudist Licence!!
Self adhesive hull repair patch (this one was done with prince in mind! )
Also various product labels (mostly blue sun)
others exist, but are not finished yet
if anyone wants a copy, let me know.
in the meantime...here's some pics (if this works....)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/43784373@N00/sets/72157601901253196/
Dan.
PS, if anybody can point me to somewhere i can get small quantities (about 10) if these things:
http://www.wallcur.com/images/products/PractiVaccineB_big.jpg
Preferably in 50ml or 100ml size, at a reasonable price (ie cheap) i'd be most obliged!
and no, they ain't on ebay...... _________________ Tobias Rieper - The Vital Spark

Blimey, bloody nice bits there! Looks like my stuff is redundant!
I'd love to have a look, but I don't have photoshop although GIMP should run it. I may be pestering you at some point in time
Also @ nudist license! |

I wouldn't say redundant - just different. After all, my ship is supposed to be core-world based, hence the nice pretty documents......Ex-separatist worlds (ie the border/rim worlds) are bound to be different.
Yeah, the nudist licence is/was a joke suggestion posted up on propcircle - so someone made one up for a laugh
another good one was the blue sun condom wrapper - that got a few laughs at the end of event 2!
nice to see another steampunk fan on here though!

Yep, I was going to carry on regardless, as I've always enjoyed making up props for when I'm DMing!
Also, yup, ya got me on steampunk, I am a proud spats & waistcoat wearer at work! ( the spats pattern off the steampunk magazine work fine after I enlarged it a bit! )
Out of interest, I see that the ship blueprints are from the leviathan bulk transport, are the engine schematics based on that? I'd guess yes, I just wondered.
I love the borders on the salvage license and the blue document. ( Can't quite make out what it is )
A really fantastic set!
Oh, on the subject of those bottles, have you tried searching ebay for potion bottles? is this the kinda thing you are looking for? |

Yeah, the salvage licences are nice - whitefall's work, not mine i'm afraid. I'm no where near as good as him. I have honestly got no idea what he based it on to get that border.
The blue document you mention - is that the reg. certificate, cortex whatsit, or the companion's licence?
Cortex whatsit was another of whitefall's and is based on a pic of an old share certificate he found on the web. Other two are mine - companion's licence started life as a chinese maritime type approval document, which i proceeded to hack around in photoshop. Reg. Docket is based on a swimming certificate i scanned in and modified. Log sheets are in fact transcribed from an 18th century trading ship's log, with a small amounth of rewording to convert to a space vessel.
As for the bottles - i really want injection vials: over on propcircle someone came up with the idea of making replicas of the medicine vials the crew steal from st lucy's hospital. Accordingly, they made the labels and posted them up - and of course, i took a copy. I want them for one of my crew's doctor's bag, but to look right they need to be on vials, not bottles. Sadly, i can't find any anywhere, at least not without shelling out loads for a bulk pack.
should look like these:

Dan.
--Edit--
Ah yes - the engine schematics.
Well, they are supposed to be, and indeed, they do look the part.
They are in fact nothing of the sort however - the upper image on the sheet being the schematic of a rather compact japanese gyroscopcally mounted radar unit, and the lower image being a plan drawing of an air filtration unit!
They do however make for a rather convincing set of engine room drawings, and even include a set of oil stains and coffee rings, although the coffee was actually accidental! _________________ Tobias Rieper - The Vital Spark

Ah, fair enough.
Have you tried pet shops? I usually get prop syringes from there, they may have some bottles as well.
Other than that, maybe inverted pipette bottles would give the right impression? |

| I'll have a stab at it if you let me know what you want. I'll be going down the library this weekend to try and get hold of some document scans. |

Don't suppose any of you fine gents could send me a copy of what you got so far so as I can get an idea of the sorta thing required by the Alliance? I'd be sure to make it up to y'all if I can. _________________ Ain't nothin' better than cruisin' the Black with a meal in your belly, platinum in your pocket, a gun on your hip and a Bible in your hand. |

ok, this is a collection of what i got - includes useful bits 'n pieces for doing your own thing and suchlike, too.
Important (aka boring) bit:
1/ this is NOT all my own work, some is by other authors, so please anyone who downloads this, do not start hawking it on ebay, as both I, and the others behind these will be understandably a tad upset.
Credits are in the readme file.
2/ Some of the stuff contained herein is in photoshop format, ie: .psd files. You will neeed something that can open/edit these!
3/This file is compressed in zip format. It is 45mb in size. Bear in mind that it will expand to over 75mb then decompressed. It will also take a while to download.

| The file seems to have been removed off rapidshare. Could you reupload it and post a link? I can give you my e-mail and you can e-mail me the files if you'd prefer. |

You have PM.
Just in case anyone else reads this in the future, and decides they want a look at my cache of paper props, post a note on the end of this thread and PM me your email address, and i'll send them.
The rapidshare file is now gone (only last on there for 6weeks or so), and as the collection is somewhat hefty, it's easier for me to send in bitesize chunks.
Downside is, this means you get 7-8 emails to sort through.
