Hey everyone

My character - a bomb-happy (blown up by himself or the enemy one time too much) mechanic - has found god (he was down the back of the fridge) so I will be coming along as a Shepherd for the next event and thereafter.

However, OOC I am also a bone fide lay-pastor so feel free to come and find me for IC or OOC reasons!

IC,  Iwas  thinkg it would be suitable to say Grace or some type of prayer before meals. Shepherd Book does in the series and movie. I know the Grace is a real prayer as opposed to a LARP one, so would that be okay? or would people have OOC issues with saying a real prayer IC?

Secondly, if anyone is interested I was thinking of doing an OOC service of sorts on the Sunday. Given my denomination, it will be very ecumencial. Depending on what people want it may or may not involve communion, could just be as simple as saying prayers together. Any takers?

Cheers

Ant

As an OOC atheist, I won't be joining you for an OOC service, but if other people would like to join in then I can't see any fair reason for anyone to raise objections. Providing you're not offended if some of us decline to join you....

I've done IC prayers at events before, and led IC Catholic "services" and haven't had any objections to it from the other attendees. I haven't decided whether my character is religious yet, but as it's all just acting I don't feel particularly hypocritical in joining an IC service

Okay, that makes sense I think.

No, I wouldn't be upset in you not joining in with someone if you don't believe in it OOC or made you uncomfortable IC. I'm not the type for force my faith down others throats, just try to respect them and their views and beliefs.

So you'd be okay with saying the Grace or a collect before a meal IC? Cool!

I'll probably ask before I say it anyway.

IC prayers are fine and dandy with me. As Shepherds are meant to be Christian it make sense for genuine Christian prayers to be used.

Ok, whoever's in charge of this rustbucket we all fly in needs to get a cleaning crew sorted out... Wink

I wouldn't join an OOC sevice, but I've no objections to one, and I've certainly no issues with IC prayers.  Indeed, having just come back from Maelstrom, I can say that religion can definitely add a lot to a game.

okay. yeah religion can add a lot...but with this game you  need to tread a bit more softly given that the two in this game are real. Smile I'd be very uncomfortable doing something more than prayers IC to be honest so as not to upset or make anyone uncomfortable.

I'm not sure who cleans the Righteous Indignation - if anyone - but I hope we will have the spares so we can replace the socks being used in the water filter!  Razz

Hi,

IC prayers and stuff are fine with me and as others have said could add to the atmosphere of the game. However, without wanting to offend, the OOC service not so much. I have no objection to you holding an OOC service but I would request that it is held away from the IC areas so that it doesn't interfere with roleplay.

Cheers
Tash

Sure...we would have done anyway!

Could always do something similar IC with fiery preaching and whatnot.

Yeah, difficulty being that if you do it IC, someone can always decide to shoot you Smile

We hold OOC Christian services at Maelstrom before time in on Sunday, but obviously with Serenity being a 24 hr time in game, I'd be more comfortable with genuine religious services being held far away from IC areas so that there's no chance of anyone confusing IC and OOC and disrupting a genuine religious ceremony with, for instance, a running gunfight.

I'm not planning a running gunfight, you understand, but what I plan and what takes place ain't ever exactly been similar?

I hope no one decides to shoot me. I've an allergy to it and a sick note from my mum saying Im excused dying.

(help! I think Ive become Bluebottle)

Yeah....being interrupted would be an issue, but can chat with the Ref team re locations. An IC thing could be fun too..I've got a really cheesy sermon about life, universe and everything and relating it to the parts of a ships engine! lol

The problem with a 24 hour time-in game is that it leaves little time for anything OOC. Let alone an OOC religious service. Maybe after time-out on Sunday, I guess, but most people will probably be busy packing up & heading home then so it may not be well-attended...

IC prayers and sermons and grace and stuff: these sound excellent, and should add a lot to the event! As long as you accept that if anyone tries to shoot you/is sarcastic then it's all purely IC...

Yeah 24hr is a problem buyt there might a spot of free time after one of the evening meals when people are too full to crack off! lol

It could be tricky finding the middle ground between comments said IC about things, especialyl religion, and realising they are IC and not to be taken OOC etc.

Being 24hr time in, it should be assumed that anything said within an IC area is IC. Naturally people may drop out momentarily, but I respect everyone enough to consider they wouldn't say anything offensive about anybody elses faith.

As for OOC service times, both myself and probably Andrew would like to attend, that could mean certain aspects of the game being suspended momentarily. In that respect early Sunday morning isn't an unreasonable time, after time out on Sunday things tend to get busier for us rather than letting up.

okies. coool. If Mr Jon would like to find a time slot that would be great for those who would like to attend a short OOC service.

IC stuff I am sure some "fun" can be organised!

And Jon, ply me with enough drink you can certainly have your 2am chat about religion!

Heh, 2am discussions on faith and religion whilst running an event, that has the potential to go really interesting places.

Otherwise it's Jon or Mr Townshend, not Mr Jon. Smile
